There is nothing like the magic of Disney to make you feel like a kid again, is there?

This past weekend I took my daughter and two of her friends to see Disney on Ice: Mickey's Magical Journey up in Dayton, OH. As we were prepping for the show, we got all Disney-fied:
  • Minnie Mouse ears: check.
  • Radio Disney CD: check
  • Princess dresses on: check

We loaded up the car with her and her "BFF club" friends, a Radio Disney cd on the radio and hit the road up to Dayton for the show. Let me frame the scene for you: three seven year old girls, Minnie Mouse ears on, doing their best lip sync and singing impressions to their favorite Radio Disney and Hannah Montana songs. For an hour in the car. It was quite a sight! Add the two large packs of cotton candy we bought at the show and you get the picture. We had a blast on our Girls Day Out!

My daughter was particularly excited to see Disney on Ice. She was hoping to see Tinkerbelle, her favorite Disney character. We weren't disappointed! The show opens with the mouse himself, Mickey. Mickey and Minnie, Donald and Daisy, plus Goofy--they appear several times throughout the show and narrate the different stories. As an old-time mouseketeer, I still get a small thrill when Mickey appears.

What exactly is Disney on Ice? Well, think of the Disney classics, retold, in ice skating form. It's like having a passport into the Disney adventures! They sing some of the most popular songs as they retell the stories. Kids absolutely adore it, seeing their favorite characters singing right there in front of them!

Ariel Under the Sea Disney on Ice

The girls loved the pageantry of the Little Mermaid production

The first act featured the Lion King, Little Mermaid and Lilo and Stich. But it was the second act that captured my heart--it was the Peter Pan story. Within a few seconds of watching Tinkerbelle skate across the ice and Peter Pan looking for his shadow, I was entranced. When the Lost Boys started singing...well, let's just say my daughter and her friends weren't the only ones singing along with the show! I personally loved the pirates--they seemed to be really enjoying themselves!

The pirates and Captain Hook were really fun!

Mickey & Minnie's Magical Journey is coming to the US Bank Arena this weekend, October 27-30, 2011. They have a special offer for cincysavers.com readers: (you knew they would, didn't you?)
Purchase a Family Four pack for only $99! It includes:

  • Four tickets to the Disney on Ice show of your choice
  • Four small popcorns
  • Four 16 oz lemonades
  • Four lollipops

A few tips for the moms in the house! Make sure to dress warmly. It is an ice show, so it gets rather chilly. We brought light jackets for the kids, just in case. There are a few mild pyrotechnics, so be prepared for those if you have sensory-sensitive children. (Nothing scary) The popcorns, lemonades and cotton candy are all very expensive--more than usual for a stadium--so be prepared. I highly recommend the deal above, since your snacks are all included. I also recommend arriving early, as there are things to see and do outside on the concourse before heading to your seat. Don't miss the photo area!

How great is the show, really? Well, here's my seven year old's take on the show: "Tell them they HAVE to go! It is SO funny! The popcorn is fresh and the cotton candy is really fun. Makes your tongue turn blue. Oh, and Ariel is sooo pretty! Tell them to go. They'll love it!" (insert giggle and blush)

So there you have it. No less of an expert than my seven year old daughter says it is an absolute must-see!
