Only 5 designers remain on the show and things are getting heated. I can't believe this was the last challenge. When did that happen? I am almost glad though, because that means we are getting closer to Project Runway All-Stars and Project Accessory. Accessories are my true passion anyway, so I can hardly contain myself while waiting to see what this reality show has to offer.
Before I go into the recap, may I just mention my predictions? I am putting my bets on Anya. Yep, Anya, the one who only started sewing for the first time a few months prior to her appearance on Project Runway. Whatever it is, she's got it. She knows how to style her outfits and she isn't afraid to use patterns. I just really like her and her design aesthetics. So this paragraph may just be me wishing that she is going to be the winner of this season. I am not alone, as Project Runway has been having fans vote for their favorites and Anya has been in the lead since around episode two.
Okay, back to the recap. As I stated earlier, 5 designers remain. Per usual, Heidi walks on the runway, greets the designers with her short and sweet hello and informs them they will be taking a ferry to meet Tim on Governors Island to hear what this weeks challenge is going to be.

Once the designers arrive on the art-inspired island, Tim gets right down to it. The designers are expected to create a collection consisting of three looks, taking inspiration from Governors Island. They have 2 days to complete the looks and a $500 budget at Mood Fabrics.
They each were given a golf cart to cruise around the island, a map and a camera. Most of the designers were inspired by the sculptural exhibits. These sculptural pieces of art were pretty amazing. Think big, modern and all constructed out of metal.
Kim becomes infatuated with a sculpture that is titled "A new Beginning", while Laura is drawn to the circles in an old railing. Viktor likes the city scape of NYC that you can see from a certain point on the island while Anya wants to use the negative/positive space of the sculptures as her inspiration. Clever I must say.
While back in the workroom working diligently to crank out these 3 looks, Tim enters the room with the dreaded button bag. But wait! Accompanying him are previous designers from this season. There was Becky, Olivier, Anthony, Bert and Bryce. They came back to help the remaining designers get their looks completed. That was a nice twist.
Tim pulls the names of the remaining designers and they get to pick who helps them from the designers they brought back.
The pairs are as follows:
Kim was picked first out of the button bag and she chose Becky as her assistant. Viktor chose Olivier. Laura chose Anthony Ryan. Anya chose Bert and Josh M. chose Bryce.
Josh gets a little snooty with Anya this episode, but aside from that, there wasn't much more drama on the home front to report. So I say we go straight to the runway. This is called Runway Recap for a reason, right?
Judges Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Heidi are in company of guest judge, actress Zoe Saldana. Who? Apparently she played a role in Center Stage and she helped launch MFD (my fashion database). Okay, whatever. I doubt there were a lot of people who knew who she was until today.

Kims' three looks include a very bright orange coat, a some one provocative orange top with a little silver skirt and a dress constructed out of brocade. The judges agreed the odd color combination made them think of a disco Halloween and that the three looks don't fit well together.

Laura created a long black and white gown with circles overload. She then incorporated the circles into a jacket then randomly she made a dress that really didn't fit into the three piece collection. Laura was super emotional this episode, crying multiple times on the runway in hopes her emotions would show how much she wants to show her collection at fashion week. The judges seemed unmoved by her tears.

Anyas' first look was a long white tight dress with a structured neckline. It reminded the judges of a column. The next look was a black cocktail dress and then a reddish rust colored pantsuit. All fit the models beautifully and the movement and structure incorporated into the garments wowed the judges.

I really liked Viktors' collection. I would wear all three looks in a heartbeat. But the judges had a problem with the idea that it was commercial. The collection wasn't fashion forward enough and needed just a tad bit more pizazz. It is Project Runway after all! The consensus among the judges was that the looks needed more ooomph and Viktor needed to step it up a notch. He is capable, it just seems like he scaled his designed back this time around.

The last collection shown was of Joshua M. His looks include a three looks include a metallic draped one-sleeve gown that appears to be made in a cheap fabric, a white and black dress and a frumpy-fitting pleated skirt matched with an ill-fitting vest. Again, they judges say Joshua didn't edit his collection enough. The one sleeve draped dress reminded them of the Statue of Liberty. Overall, they weren't a huge fan of his collection this episode.
Fashion Week is at the top of all these designers minds but of course, only three get to go. Anya was the first pick, Viktor was second and Josh is the third designer they chose to show at fashion week.
The last two left standing on stage were Kimberly and Laura with Laura being sent home. Nina was never a fan of the "barbie doll of the group" so I am surprised she lasted this long.
Woo Hoo! Down to four designers for next weeks episode!
