Everywhere you look, there she is. She's in almost all of the top style magazines, in commercials, on billboards...you name it, she is present. Who is she?

That stereotypical size 2 women who is 5 ft 9 with what we all perceive as the perfect figure. She can wear a garbage bag and it would probably look good. But reality is, only a very SMALL percentage of women are actually that size.

Age, childbirth, health issues and many other factors play into what made us what we are today. But just because you aren't that so-called perfect proportionate size, doesn't mean you can't look and feel like a million bucks!

Here are several tips that I think can benefit the "real world" of fashion:

Wear clothing that fits properly
Nothing looks worse than a lady who is a size 12 squished into a size 8. It's not flattering and it has to be uncomfortable. So the best advice I can give in this situation is just don't do it.

Watch out for voluminous clothing
I know what you're thinking, having a voluminous blouse can hide certain things such as a tummy or large chest. Sadly, this isn't the case, as wearing big flowy tops and bottoms can actually make you appear larger.

Wear vertical stripes instead of horizontal
Horizontal stripes, as much as I love them, will unfortunately make you appear wider. Good news is, if you are digging stripes, just wear them vertically. Vertical stripes will actually help lengthen the appearance of your body which in turn, makes your image look thinner.

Choose clothing styles that highlight your best features
Do you have killer legs? By all means, show them off girlfriend! Invest in some skirts, cropped shorts, and dresses. Highlighting your best features will not help help you feel good about yourself but will also detract attention to the areas that you may not feel as confident about.

Consider wearing a girdle or shaper
Girdles and shapers have come a long way in throughout fashion history. Today, they come in all different shapes, colors and fits, enabling you to find your perfect shaper. Using a shaper is great for smoothing out your clothing and they aren't necessarily always intended to make you appear smaller.

Choose the right fabrics
Wear fabrics that will work with you, not against you. Some of the best fabrics to wear are those with a blend of cotton. Also consider wearing micro-fibers or polyester/spandex blends. All of these fabrics have great give and are quite comfy.

Simple is key
Think about simple shapes when you are out on a shopping spree and considering purchasing something new.

Here is the best thing about all these tips: They are easy to accomplish

Just by changing a few of your shopping habits by being conscientious about what types of fabrics you are looking at or by doing something as simple as wearing a shaper can make you go from feeling kind of drab to absolutely fab!
