It can be a daunting and tricky task when creating a place to let your creativity run wild. Keep in mind there is a fine line between being to creative or going the complete opposite direction and having your space too organized to the point where it's not inspiring. I was fortunate enough to be able to completely redesign my workspace last summer. Iit was so exciting deciding on colors, moving things around and making the space 'mine'! With that said, I wanted to share a few tips that were used when redesigning my workspace.
Tip 1:
Choose a space where you feel comfortable. Even if it isn't an entire room, sometimes just a corner of a room will suffice. I know bloggers who work out of a closet..a pretty cute closet at that!
Tip 2: Make whatever space you chose your own. Doing even the smallest things like adding pictures of loved ones or hanging up inspirational quotes can make a big difference.
Tip 3: Get organized. Whenever you may have that 'ah ha' moment and want to get straight to creating, not being able to find what you need can be the ultimate creativity killer. Staying organized is easier than you think. I found that finding the right bins and containers for your supplies makes a huge difference. I design and create jewelry and have over 250 types of different beads that I want to keep all separate. It was next to impossible to keep all the beads straightened out but I found using nut & bolt organizers you can pick up at any hardware store, did the trick.
Tip 4: Create a comfortable ambiance. Things that may help make the perfect creative sanctuary are scented candles, lighting & music. Pick what makes you feel the most creative and inspired.
Tip 5: Let your workspace evolve. Some of the initial ideas you may have had end up not working out the way you had planned. For example, I had over 400 different little plastic compartments of beads so I started combining beads that were similar in color or style to reduce the amount of little compartments down to 250. Still seems like a lot still, but it makes a difference when sorting through things! See what works for you and what doesn't. Everyone has a different way to do things and finding your style & comfort zone will make for the best place to create.
