When I wrote a couple weeks ago about helping our economy by buying products Made in America, we got a HUGE response! So many of you wrote in to tell us that you really liked this idea:

"I really like this blog as it opens our eyes to what is really happening to our economy and our country and maybe it makes us stop and think of where our balance and our priorities are placed...The big question is... where do we begin? By starting this blog, maybe more people will become more aware of American products and service.... In our fast pace world, it can be difficult to think first then react/spend. It truly amazes me when I see or read how one person can still make a difference. I applaud and support those actions."

"I can certainly spend $64 a year on Made in America products, I am sure I waste that, and if I calculated my expenses a little bit more carefully and really took the time to do so, I bet I could easily redistribute where I spend a lot of my money. I really think this is a GREAT idea, Heather. Every little bit will help, and as I get older and hopefully wiser I feel that it is my generations responsibility to make the effort. What we do now 100% affects our children's future, and that is sooo important. I would be interested to know where a lot of things are made."

"I think along with our shift to non-USA made items, we've lost quality. I think that is important to consider, not just price. I'd personally rather pay more for some things if they'll last longer, it's cheaper in the long run."

"Obviously, this is very important with the economy as it is. Consumer spending makes up a great deal of our economy, so every little bit can help. My husband and I try to buy local art sometimes. I've been thinking about buying local beef from a farmer. I need to look more and spend a little more of my money to support those things made in USA."

I agree that this is a really important issue, one that is changing the way I shop to some degree. So to help each other find products that are Made in America, I've created a list of products Made in the USA that I'll be adding products to. You are invited to add products to it as well that you know are Made in America. It is broken down by product type--so if you're looking for a good furniture cleaner, come see which ones are made here in America. It might be dinnerware you're looking for--we've got it too! This list is just the beginning, so keep adding and checking back. We also will be highlighting items Made in America here in the blog.

The list also includes the contact pages for many of the manufacturers. To help keep the jobs here, let them know that you like that their products are made here in America. It helps to let them know! As an added bonus, you could very well get a nice coupon in the mail from them for emailing them.

Every little bit helps. Remember, if each American spends only $3 more per year on products Made in America we'll create 10,000 jobs. We can all do that, right?
