Want to make these adorable multi-functional cork containers? I happened to turn one of mine into a vase, but I think they would work as a great back to school desk accessory! Supplies:- Soup or Vegetable Cans
- Spray Paint (color of your choice)
- Cork Liner with adhesive backing (I purchased mine from Michaels Arts & Crafts but you can also purchase the same exact cork liner here.
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Pins
1. Start by emptying out your cans (I say this as I am eating Mandarin Oranges..) 2. Take the labels off the cans. I sometimes think wetting them first helps.
3. Next spray paint the cans. I chose white, but as mentioned in the supply list, you may use any color your heart desires. Make sure to spray the inside of the can as well as the upper ridge and bottom portion. The outside middle portion of the can will be covered with cork, so it won't be neccessary to have it painted.
4. Once the cans are fully dry, measure the length. Then unroll your cork liner and use that measurement to cut out a piece that will fit perfectly onto the middle portion of your can.
5. Once you have the piece of cork cut out, strip off the paper on the backside to expose the adhesive and begin sticking it to the can, making sure everything lines up evenly. I choose to do steps 4 & 5 twice so my cork is twice as thick. *Side note: If you plan on using your cork container as a vase, I reccommend adding a smaller container inside the can to avoid leaks. I just purchased a small glass jar at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 that easily fits inside my largest can after removing the lid.
6. Have fun! I chose to cut out small squares using the left over cork pieces and adding them to one of my containers for texture. You could also paint the cork. The possibilites are endless...Just don't forget to use them as mini memo boards!
