The 16 remaining contestants who survived the audition process were rudely awakened at 5 A.M. from their slumber at the Atlas. In this wee hour of the morning, Tim Gunn walked the group to the Parsons School presenting their first test. The challenge, “Create a fashion masterpiece employing only what you have on and last night’s bed sheet!”
But wait… let’s back up a few steps. Wasn’t the Road to the Runway that aired right before the Season 9 Premier quite entertaining for us diehard Project Runway enthusiasts? Wouldn’t you have loved being a part of the meet-and-greet, getting the scoop on how the designers got to this point? I found this fascinating.
To me, designer Anthony Ryan Auld’s story is most compelling. He is completely colorblind and has survived testicular cancer. What an inspiration. And what about Anya Ayoung Chee? She never picked up a needle and thread until four months prior to being on the show.
I love the diversity among the 16 designers, Olivier Green’s blend of ethnicities to Bert, who experienced a lot of life and for whom many people doubted would make the cut. This wonderful assortment of contestants will certainly make for a great season!
Okay, back to the premier. I watched with anticipation as the designers transformed their slept-in pajamas into a work of art. I always find it curious that some designers exude such confidence while others appear to be so anxious and struggle to finish their assignments. The mix of emotions is one of the key ingredients that captures my attention and keeps me tuning in week after week.
Guest judge, actress Christina Ricci imparted wonderful insight. But after some harsh critiques and the smoke cleared, can you believe 57 year old Bert takes the win and gains immunity to the next challenge? You got to love it!

So now, what are your notions about the new season of Project Runway? What looks would you like to see for less? Share your insight with me and others.
