Are you in the hunt for a new computer, or will you be soon? Have a kid heading off to college this fall and need a computer for them? This is the time to be looking for deals! Many of last year's models are being clearanced out to make room for the new models that will be introduced in the next month or two. Start watching for sales now--outside of Black Friday, this is the best time to buy!

Here's a few good deals going on right now:

  • On Amazon if you buy one of their selected computers or laptops priced $699 or higher, they'll give you an Xbox 360 4GB console FREE! You must be an Amazon Student member to qualify--but membership is also free, and gets you lots of discounts on products and free Amazon Prime two-day shipping for a year!  Several of the laptops and computers appear to be decent deals, especially when you factor in the free Xbox 360.
  • This Toshiba 17.3" Satellite Laptop for $699 is a part of the Amazon Student Xbox 360 offer, but it is a fantastic deal all on its own. I own this same laptop in last year's model. This one has more memory, a faster processor, a bigger hard drive and a longer battery life, but is only $75 more than I paid a year ago. I can vouch for Toshiba and this laptop--I run a lot of programs and windows all at once and it keeps up. Not only that, I tend to be rough on my laptops. This one has taken a beating and keeps on ticking! Not only that, but the size of the screen makes it feasible to watch movies and tv streaming over the web without feeling like I'm squinting to see the details.
  • The Lenovo Outlet is also a great place to watch for deals. These are often refurbished or while supplies last, but if you're watching closely you can get great deals. (We use Lenovo laptops in our offices.) I'm eyeing the IdeaPad Tablet for $360. It functions as a netbook with a 10" screen and keyboard, but the screen swivels to be used as a tablet--like an iPad.
  • Staples has several good deals in their ad this week including:
    • HP G6 15.6" laptop for $329 after rebate
    • HP G7 17.3" laptop for $479 after rebate
    • Toshiba 15.6" Satellite laptop for $349
    • Dell Inspiron Tablet laptop for $399
    • HP 20" LCD wide-screen monitor $89.90
  • Office Depot has laptops starting at only $279:
    • Compaq 15.6" laptop for only $279 after rebate
    • Toshiba 15.6" laptop for $349

Last, if you're looking to buy an iPad2, contact the local Apple store. I've been told that if you use it for work or business purposes you can buy it through the Apple business store and get it in only a few days, instead of the 3-4 week waiting period most customers face.
