It's officially wedding season, and while you won't be the main attraction, you can still look gorgeous! Dressing for a wedding can be tricky, especially for warmer months. That's why I've put together some tips and ideas so you can dress to impress!
If you're having some trouble deciding what level of formality you should wear, take a hint from what the wedding invitation says. If the wedding is after 6 p.m. and the invitation says "white tie," then you know to wear a formal evening gown, but that's rare. Dress up for weddings after 6 p.m. but you can still show a little skin in a sleeveless dress. Daytime and outdoor weddings call for some fun - take advantage of prints, bright colors and strappy sandals.
Still need a little guidance? Here are some dos and don'ts:
Do wear:
  • Black for a formal or evening wedding. Just make sure to add a pop of color with jewelry, a clutch or cute sandals or pumps to spice up your look.
  • Bright summer hues in orange, pink, purple, yellow and blue are fun and trendy.
  • Floral prints. Floral print is huge this spring/summer, especially oversize patterns.
  • Lace and ruffles. Girly blouses, dresses and skirts are popular this season - just make sure you're going for the feminine, girly look and not overly sexy.
Don't wear:
  • White. Seriously, just don't do it. Only the bride should be wearing white, and you'll attract unwanted attention if you choose to compete.
  • Anything too sexy. Try to think about how you'd dress at a family occasion. A little cleavage is OK, but balance it out by covering up elsewhere. Same thing if you wear a short skirt; make sure to have a higher neckline.
  • Heavy makeup. This is especially important for outdoor weddings - you don't want your face to look like it's melting halfway through the ceremony! Even if the ceremony and reception is inside, a more natural look is better for warm months.
  • Anything denim. Wedding casual never means you should wear your favorite pair of blue jeans.
Finding a cute wedding outfit doesn't mean you have to break the bank. I almost always find cute dresses on sale at Macy's, Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft and Gap, among others.
Don't want to buy an entirely new outfit? You can reinvent an old one by adding new pieces like jewelry, shoes, a new clutch or handbag, etc.
