Beginning today, you can now redeem your Kroger Fuel Rewards at Shell gas stations in the Cincinnati/Dayton region! This is great news–if you don’t live near to a Kroger station, now you can save money at your local Shell station!
I’d heard about this several months ago from a couple of local reporters that they were testing it with select employees.  But they’ve just announced it officially.  Starting today (Monday February 15th), its open to all customers!  Even better, its available in select cities across the country and will be rolled out to many more in coming months!  So make sure to check back when you’re travelling so you don’t miss any savings opportunities!
Standard Kroger Fuel Rewards rules apply:
  • Earn 1 point for every dollar spent in stores.
  • For every 100 points, you can redeem them for a .10 per gallon discount on one fill-up, up to 35 gallons.
  • Points accumulate, and you may redeem as much as $1 per gallon discount in one fill-up.
  • Points expire after 60 days.  (This runs monthly–points earned during the January Mega Sale will expire at the end of March.)
  • $100 spent in store = 100 points.  Remember, when shopping with coupons, your pre-coupon total is what your points is calculated from.
  • 2 prescriptions at Kroger will earn you 100 points.  (They cannot be federally funded.)
  • $50 in Gift Cards equals 100 points.  Kroger Gift Cards are excluded. (Try buying $50 in Visa gift cards, then grocery shopping with them–you’ll earn double rewards on the gift cards, and then your usual rewards–for triple rewards!)
  • Use your Kroger Mastercard to save .15 a gallon
  • Points are earned nationwide, so even when shopping outside the Cincinnati area, your points are still accumulating
There are two differences in the Kroger/Shell program:
  • The maximum discount at Shell (for the time being) is .10 per gallon.
  • You can use your Kroger Mastercard to pay, but you will not save any extra at the pump by doing so.
While I’m a bit bummed about the limit on per-gallon reward redemption at Shell, it does mean that I can do smaller, more frequent fill-ups without using all of my rewards at once, like I currently have to do at the Kroger station.  This gives me a lot more flexibilty in how I use the rewards I’ve earned.  Talking with Kroger’s Corporate team today I learned that is exactly what they’re hoping for–more flexibility for the customers!
I’ll be talking with Kroger again on Thursday–do you have any questions you’d like me to ask?
